Is is just available to watch on the website at the moment? I can't see a download link. What I have seen so far looks promising.

No there isn't a download link on the site, but real player downloaded a 750mb mp4 file, so if there is anywhere that I can put this without upsetting anyone then please let me know.

An mp4! That sounds really tempting. I think you'd better check with those who produced it though.

Well I learned something new today.
There is a website called clipnabber that can give you a direct download link to dailymotion, youtube, etc. videos.
You input the real dailymotion page which is http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbc5ut_born-of-hope-full-movie_shortfilms
And along with that page's source code, the clipnabber site gave me 2 direct download links - for the low def and hi def files.

So I directly downloaded the HD file which was a 792mb mp4. I'm not sure why Real Player came up with 750mb. Maybe it was the HQ instead of HD?

MPC states:
Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1280x720 24.98fps 1491Kbps [Video Output 0]
Audio: AAC 44100Hz stereo 176Kbps [Audio Output 0]

Nice thing is that with a direct download link, you can do a multithreaded download.
Since I have Mega Manager installed, I just used that do download the vid.

Thanks for the info. :) I put in the URL where it says, Paste the video URL below:

How do I get that page's source code?

EDIT: Don't worry. That how? button wasn't working before for some reason, but now it does.

I'm looking forward to this.

Cool.
I hadn't heard of the Hunt for Gollum until now.
So I got that directly from daily motion as well. ;)

Was it the standard definition version you downloaded? I just downloaded a 720p DivX version with MP3 audio from tehparadox, because I received an error message when I tried to bring the HD version's URL into ClipNabber. I would be interested to see how the two versions compare.

I too have not yet seen either, though I heard about the Hunt for Gollum a while back. I plan to watch LOTR through before Xmas - as usual  - so I think I'll watch these two fanmade productions straight after.

The Hunt For Gollum takes place about the same time period as the Fellowship, Born of Hope takes place earlier, infact it wont spoil the movie by saying its about Aragorn's parents. 720p DivX version with MP3 audio, sounds like someone has made a Divx version out of the MP4.

How did you get the MP4, Searcher? I can't fnid it anywhere.

Someone had an mkv posted on tehparadox, but it was said to be only reasonable quality. Apparently the original was starved of bitrate? Regardless, I would prefer the original MP4.

Captain, at clipnabber, just to be sure, use this link http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x93zji_the-hunt-for-gollum-hd-version_shortfilms

I clicked to download the mp4 version, but what I got isn't an mp4 file, it was a 288mb .on2 file.
Apparently, it's some kind of .flv variation so I changed the extension to .flv

Specs from MPC:
Video: FLV4 1280x720 [Video]
Audio: MPEG Audio Layer 3 44100Hz stereo 96Kbps [Audio]

MPC isn't showing the bitrate but MediaCoder says that it's 931Kbps.

Thanks to both searcher and zeppelinrox for their help. I wonder why the people responsible for this don't put the file up for download on their website.

Perhaps it has something to do with the copyright issue. Maybe this way they can claim that the content is not purposely being distributed or something.

I checked tehparadox for that HFG divx you had downloaded.
It's not as good as the .on2/.flv file... as it was probably encoded using the on2/flv...

BUT I also noticed a 3.13gb DVDR... so, just for shiggles, I decided to download that too.

It's not finished downloading yet but I was able to extract the first .vob file from the incomplete .iso (yay 7zip!) and I am happy to say that it IS BETTER quality than the .on2/.flv.

Appears as though the on2/flv was upconverted to 720p and sharpened (and pixelated) from this possibly original DVD rip.
Also, the sound is WAY better.

Great news, zeppelinrox. I have the ON2 (weird file) but the DVD would be preferable by all accounts. Is it the PAL DVD with German and Romanian subs? The one from VoX MOViES TEAM?

Well I can't believe how slow this is downloading from RS today.
I've still only got 800mb downloaded.

But having said that, I am indeed able to confirm that it IS PAL and pertty sure it has German and Romanian subs.
The Subtitle menu only shows German but while it's playing, I am able to select either Dutch or Romanian.

Beats me... the first track is either German or Dutch.

What language is "Die Jagd nach Gollum"? I guess German.

The other subtitle says "Vanarea Lui Gollum" which has to be Romanian, of course.
Ummm.. yeah.. of course... ;)

Edit: I see you asked another question. Yep, it's Vox... file names are
Code:
VoX-Hunt.for.Gollum.rxx

Thanks - again! Well, my RS is going like a bat out of hell....

Do you use a download manager? I just stick the URLs into Firefox these says and it's much faster - laborious as you have to put the links in manually - but much faster.

I use jDownloader for RS and MU downloads as it's all autiomatic.
Whenever I pay, RS will give my full 1.2 MB/s download speed.
But today its farting about at like 50 kb/s. Although its free, at least it usually gives about 125 kb/s

That's why I like free MU so much... no waiting and nearly full speed alot of the tiime.

If you decide to try JD, it integrates with a filrefox plugin called flashgot.
Seems like something you'd fall in love with

I always used to use jdownloader all the time, but recently it just hasn't been working properly, so one day I gave up and did it manually. What a difference!

I can't believe I didn't do this sooner. Automated is definitely easier, but Firefox can handle many downloads at a time, so apart from the effort involved, you can't really go wrong.

EDIT: I'll have this sucker in less than half an hour!

Weird.
jD still works better than ever for me.

And yeah, when I feel the urge to splurge on RS and get premium, jD will download however many I want it to but 4 threads is enough. It will always go max speed at 1.2 MB/s so a 4gb edit is usually done in about an hour.

At least when it's free and slow, it builds up the anticipation level

I finally watched the MP4 of this excellent fan-film yesterday. It is beautifully filmed in parts, and does an extremely good job of filling in some of the background story to Aragorn. The actor who played Arathorn looks enough like Viggo Mortensen in FOTR to allow the two films to sit side by side. While I realize the voiceover was necessary, I did find it a little tiresome at times.

The audio seemed to go out of sync for a while early on in the film, and I heard some minor imperfections in the audio at various points. I don't if it was the file itself or the fact that it didn't like my WD HD media player, but it was not a big problem and did not really affect my enjoyment of the film.

I would certainly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of either Peter Jackson's film adaptations or Tolkien's original books.
